Fun Nail Friday!

A NEW YEAR! <Insert obligatory “I can’t believe how fast the year has gone” rant>

With formidable holidays like this one looming in front of us, I can’t help but ask myself the tough questions. Like…is there ever such thing as too much glitter? I say no. That is, until you have to remove all that glitter polish. I’ve definitely shot myself in the foot with this week’s New Year’s Eve Nails! If anyone would like to send me a vat of acetone for me to soak my hands for 4 days while my rhinestones and glitter take their time falling off, please send me a message. Serious inquiries only. :p

Fun Nail Friday!

Happy 4/20 Friday! If you can see through the haze, check out our FNF selections this week!

Typical French manicures are so out, so I’m impressed with LDL’s take on the classic ‘cure. It’s good to turn tradition on its head!

Who’s heading out to Vegas this weekend? This girl!

Did we get hitched last night?

Is that enough glitter for you? No? Then check out C.H.’s Vegas nails! So jazzy!

So. Much. Glitter. I want to be swimming in a pool of it…NOW! When will this day be over? I’m ready for Shenanigans!

Fun Nail Friday

This week, it’s more like a SNF (Sick Nail Friday). My throat hurts, my head hurts, I don’t know what’s wrong with me!!! I’m feeling so crappy that it’s about time to break out the emergency glitter. Yes, you heard me.

Glitter: is it the new penicillin? Will report back with my findings.

Time to cuddle in with some whiskey and a good movie. Speaking of movies…the girls and I decided to tackle more movie themes for a weekly manis! I’m quite impressed at our selections. Something for every type of cinephile!

"The Dream is Collapsing"

Here’s my ode to one of the most WTF movies of our time. Step into the levels of the dream…I rather like the little maze nail (it’s so Versace for H&M), but my nail is too small for the spinning top NOT to look like a chubby “X.”

"Death cannot stop true love... All it can do is delay it for a while."

Oh how I love that C.H. chose “The Princess Bride!” And are we living for the periwinkle glitter pieces or WHAT?! So pretty!!! C.H. might need a little emergency glitter removal, though.

Yu Tu Mama También

Thank you MKL, for adding one of my favorite movies into the mix. I don’t think many of you know this, but Gael Garcia Bernal and I fell in love on the set of this movie. And yes, we’re still going strong. Le sigh.. “Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea.”

LDL knows this wouldn’t be a #MoviesOnNails mani week without a little Sex & the City! I am loving these sassy little leopard spots!

Stay tuned to see what our next week’s theme will be, you do NOT want to miss out! Oh who am I kidding, it’s MOVIES again!!! 🙂

Emergency Glitter Removal

Now that its the new year and you’re not legally required to wear glittery/sparkly nails (at the moment), its time to take it all off. Simple. That’s it. Any questions?

Oh yes! Everyone knows that glittery polishes are a pain in the ass, so here are some tips for removing it without spending 5 minutes on each freakin’ nail.

Using mild acetone:

  • Saturate a cotton ball with nail polish remover
  • Place on nail, making sure you’re covering the entire nail from cuticle to tip, and gently press down
  • Hold for about 30 seconds, letting the acetone soak in
  • Gently slide the cotton ball from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Most of the polish should be gone by this point, but wipe away any stragglers with the same pad
  • Repeat for all nails
  • Make sure to moisturize your nail beds afterwards, they’ll be a little dried out

You could also use pure acetone (which I prefer), which is much more powerful, but will dry your fingers out immensely, so be doubly sure you’re moisturizing. Here’s a fun tutorial I found that shows a creative way to get your glitter polish off. It takes a little longer than I’m used to, but more effective.
