Fun Nail Friday!

Happy Friday, kids! I’m here with all of my eggs in one basket and ready to bring you the very best selection of Easter-themed nails!

Nails by MKL

Bright tangerine polish, hot pink towel, I’ll even allow the neon orange wayfarers. MKL is willing this Easter Sunday to be an especially sunny day. And I’m for it too!

Nails by LDL

Jordan almonds, Springtime M&Ms, Peeps…suddenly I’m craving pastel candies thanks to LDL’s Super Spring mani. Just kidding about the Peeps. Peeps can go to hell.

Nails by CY

Look at this delicious abstract Peacock mani by CY. I want this mani in my life, right now. I’m going to be honest right now, I wish my skin was this color. I’d fit right in in The Capitol!

Nails by moi

I love eggs. Eggs eggs eggs. Scrambled eggs, deviled eggs, eggs on my digits, I love em all. But mostly, I love them unfertilized. WHAT!!!! You can’t have over easy eggs otherwise, perverts!

Nails by AN

I tawt I taw another Easter mani! We’ve got the complete meal here on A Total Waste of Makeup, why go anywhere else on the Internet today? A nice bird, a ton of eggs…tank you for spending your widdle Holiday wid us!

No holiday gathering is complete without its RDC (resident dark cloud), and this week it’s served up on a bloody platter by C.H. with her awesome “Game of Thrones” mani. Did anyone watch it this past Sunday? When you do a “Game of Thrones” mani, you win or you die. There is no middle ground. Congratulations CH, because you WIN.

Have an eggscelent Easter weekend and we’ll see you on the flip side!

Fun Nail Friday!

Oh, 3/17. Everyone’s favorite alcoholiday (beating Easter by a smidgen)!

Naturally, as it’s St. Patrick’s Day eve, we goin’ green. We had to! Although it’s funny because we all HATE green nail polish! It truly pained us to give our nails a coat of green, but here we go…

Finding a green polish in a deep jewel tone helped ease into this color. Of course, I whored it up with some rhinestones. As usual!

C.H., also a longtime green polish opponent, chose to celebrate the day with little tennis balls. And there’s lots of glitter, so I obviously whole-heartily approve.

I love that LDL had fun with this St. Patrick’s Day theme. Here are her dinosaur egg St. Patrick’s Day nails! Anyone else getting Yoshi flashbacks?

At this point of the post we all know there’s only room for one more thing, and that is this week’s RDC (Resident Dark Cloud)! Congratulations MKL, who says she is boycotting this theme due to not owning green polish.

Well blarney on you and your little dog too! But secretly, I don’t blame you… 🙂

Everyone, be safe out there! And remember: the truth comes out when the spirit goes in!

Fun Nail Friday

With this damn Football competition coming up that everyone’s talking about, the girls and I decided to go the opposite direction and give ourselves non-football related nails. I mean come on, that would be so expected, painting on the team colors of our preferred Football squads and waving them around for everyone to see and judge us.

Oh who am I kidding–I just didn’t feel like gettin’ all red, white, and blue up in here. I guess you can say I’m just not a Giant Patriot (weak cymbal crash).

Okay okay, onto the nails. More #MoviesOnNails for ya!

"The Girl with the Arabic Tattoo"

Here’s a very loose, very feminine interpretation of the brooding 2009/2011 hit. Because dragon tattoos are scary and so is Rooney Mara. Newsflash sister, the movie is over. You can go back to looking like you don’t shoot Red Bull intravenously. I guess she’s gonna stay in character until the 3rd movie wraps. Now that’s dedication. Also, insanity.

Calm down, PATRICIA.

(We know who Rooney’s voting for this Sunday!)

Here is L.D.L’s manicural retelling of the Jennifer Garner classic “13 Going On 30.” What has J-Gar been up to lately other than making armies of children for Ben Affleck? I don’t know. And no, “Valentines Day” does not count. That movie was cornier than Nebraska and Iowa put together.

Fun & Flirty 13 Going On 30

M.K.L finally got with the program and watched 2010’s “Tangled.”

Here comes the smolder...

She first planned on painting a thousand lanterns but decided instead to fantasize about Flynn Rider. A very worthwhile time investment, I’d say.

What?? It's not like I drew this!

I should have said at the beginning of this post that we all decided to go girly except for our resident dark cloud C.H., with her “The Dark Knight Rises” inspired mani.

"When Gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die"

With regards to Bane, our safe word is “Al Ghul.” Is that weird? Don’t be fooled by the kinky face mask, he’s a real sweetheart!

Looking forward to the weekend!!! Got your own #MoviesOnNails that you’d like to show off? Share them here!

Fun Nail Friday

This week, it’s more like a SNF (Sick Nail Friday). My throat hurts, my head hurts, I don’t know what’s wrong with me!!! I’m feeling so crappy that it’s about time to break out the emergency glitter. Yes, you heard me.

Glitter: is it the new penicillin? Will report back with my findings.

Time to cuddle in with some whiskey and a good movie. Speaking of movies…the girls and I decided to tackle more movie themes for a weekly manis! I’m quite impressed at our selections. Something for every type of cinephile!

"The Dream is Collapsing"

Here’s my ode to one of the most WTF movies of our time. Step into the levels of the dream…I rather like the little maze nail (it’s so Versace for H&M), but my nail is too small for the spinning top NOT to look like a chubby “X.”

"Death cannot stop true love... All it can do is delay it for a while."

Oh how I love that C.H. chose “The Princess Bride!” And are we living for the periwinkle glitter pieces or WHAT?! So pretty!!! C.H. might need a little emergency glitter removal, though.

Yu Tu Mama También

Thank you MKL, for adding one of my favorite movies into the mix. I don’t think many of you know this, but Gael Garcia Bernal and I fell in love on the set of this movie. And yes, we’re still going strong. Le sigh.. “Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea.”

LDL knows this wouldn’t be a #MoviesOnNails mani week without a little Sex & the City! I am loving these sassy little leopard spots!

Stay tuned to see what our next week’s theme will be, you do NOT want to miss out! Oh who am I kidding, it’s MOVIES again!!! 🙂

Fun Nail Friday!

This week I decided to pay tribute to one of the most iconic images of the last couple of years of animation–yes, that’s right. I have Carl Fredricksen’s little balloon house on my nails.

Take a look. I bet you can’t even tell which picture I drew with my Sally Hansen nail pens and which picture was digitally and painstakingly crafted by Pixar.

Figure it out yet?

This got me thinking. Movies on nails. This could be fun! Let’s trend it! #MoviesOnNails

Oh wait. Considering the fact that I still draw houses like a 4-year old, this actually could be frustrating.

Fun Nail Friday!

It’s almost Christmas and by golly wouldn’t you know it just from looking at our nails. It’s supposed to be a sunny 71 degrees here in Los Angeles on Christmas day which is absolute bullshit, so I guess my mani for the week is just wishful thinking:

"Winding Down the Christmas Crazy"

I know. You expected some batshit holiday nail expression. I decided to go the opposite way because I’m so exhausted from Christmas; the crazy crowds, the manic sales, the forced togetherness. I feel like I just want to enjoy Christmas with my imaginary pug on a snowflake shaped couch in a quiet mountain cabin with a fire going, heating up my endless supply of Jack in the Box curly fries. I realize that’s asking for a lot, so I’ll settle for just the last thing 😉

The girls, however, had other ideas…

Here is LDL’s  “Christmas on Steroids.” Gah! Nice job LDL, but I am now Christmas scarred for life. Cut to me crawling on my hands and knees through a roll of wrapping paper whispering “So…much…Christmas..” before I am attacked by an elf brandishing some poisonous candy canes. <endscene>

Gah!!!! Here’s C.H.’s “Holiday Hodgepodge” in which she glitters the eff outta her nails. That’s the good thing about holidays. All the glitter.

Then just as my brain was about to explode from over-glitteration, MKL dials it back for “HO HO HOme for the Holidays!”

And that’s about it! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas weekend spend with family, friends, or at least a liter of vodka.

Fun Nail Friday

Thankfully my health (but not sanity) has returned in time for this very special edition of Fun Nail Friday…Holiday Edition!

Let’s see what the most wonderful time of the year decided to puke up on our nails today, shall we?

Ornament in Death Grip

I decided to name this one “UGHHHHHHHHHH, holidays!” because that’s exactly how I feel right now about everything. “UGHHHHHHHHHH, washing dishes!” & “UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH, the crowded malls!” round out my emotions. This is pretty much a mishmash of everything holiday that I could think of.

But let’s start at the beginning:

I usually have an idea of what direction I want to go towards when I paint my nails. This time I did not. Clearly. So I just grabbed holiday colors and started painting. White nails?! Reverse french manicure?! What the what, this is so not me. I added on some glitter, snowflake nail design, and green rhinestones, and the look actually came together pretty nicely, for what this week’s theme was. And if you missed the memo, it is HOLIDAY EXPLOSION.

The girls decided to bring the crazy holiday goodness as well in their weekly manis:

MKL's "Bipolar Blues w/ a Side of Sugary Christmas Delight"

MKL hit it on the nose, because this is pretty much what everyone’s feeling right now. You know, feeling homicidal and eating too much sugar. I ❤ CHRISTMAS!

C.H.'s "Words with Friends" because she's all about the appropriate memos these days!

LDL reached into the deepest, darkest corner of her deranged mind & really brought the cray in this week’s ‘do.

"Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow All Over My Nails!" - She said nails but I knew she meant face...

Also, did you notice how obsessed with the iPhone collage app they are? I think it’s kind of amazing, so I decided to get in on the action as well.

Happy holidays…9 days til liftoff!

Fun Nail Friday!

Ooooooh, GIRL! I am so excited to present this week’s FNF post! I saw it on a nail blog and totally HAD to have it on my nails this week. Super fun look, even more fun than singing Selena Gomez songs in the style of Celine Dion! (Note: Try it, it’s AMAZING–thanks Gen for the idea!) So without further ado, here is “I’m too lazy to bake!”

I literally want to eat my fingers.

I was trying to think of every cutesy bakery print I could. Every time I look down at my nails, I get really happy.

This was a fairly easy mani, but it was tedious because most of it involves watching paint dry. Also, if you’re not ambidextrous you’ll definitely have trouble with your non-dominant hand. Trust, my left hand has really sad, unsure looking cupcakes. But I digress!

Here’s how I did it:

(L-R): Top coat, OPI’s “Color So Hot It Berns”, China Glaze’s “For Audrey,” Sally Hansen nail art pens in black & white. Note: In the end, I opted to use a rhinestone as the cupcake topper instead of red polish. Make sure your base polish is completely dry before starting your nail art, or else your colors won’t be as vibrant.

Lastly, apply your normal 56 coats of top coat and dry, dry dry.

Not everything was sugar and spice though, I did have some gripes with my tools. “For Audrey” is a beautiful Tiffany blue polish that looks SO amazing at first but after a few days it starts looking like sad, chipped house paint. It’s such a short term polish it kills me! Second, the nail art pens are better suited for small designs, like polka dots. My middle fingers, the stripes, are chipping and even though I layered the white polish on them, they are still kind of fussy and opaque. Problems aside, it’s still a really fun look to show off for the week.
